Wins for Fermanagh and QUB in the Conor McGurk Cup

ULSTER’S inter-county season began with two Conor McGurk Cup Round 1 games on Tuesday night.

Fermanagh were 3-17 to 0-11 winners over Cavan in Kingspan Breffni Park.

Jimmy Tormey’s goal saw Fermanagh hold a slender 1-8 to 0-10 interval lead.

Daniel Teague hit the net after the break to put them on their way to victory with Luca McCusker hitting their third goal late on.

In the other game, QUB were 5-24 to 2-9 winners over Louth at The Dub after holding a comfortable 3-15 to 0-6 half-time lead.

Quarter-final action begins on Friday night when Antrim take on Armagh in Dunsilly at 7.3opm.

The other three quarter finals are fixed for 1pm on Saturday.  Donegal host Monaghan in Convoy, Down take on QUB at the Dub with Ulster University at home to Fermanagh.

Derry and Tyrone were the two Ulster counties not to enter the competition this season.

The early season games give counties a chance to prepare for the NHL opening weekend in early February.
