Mickey Harte appointed as manager of Kilcoo

By Niall Gartland

MICKEY Harte has been appointed as manager of Down club Kilcoo, it has emerged this evening.

The club released a statement on its social media channels revealing that Harte has stepped into the role vacated by Martin Corey following their Down Senior Championship semi-final defeat to Burren.

The Errigal Ciaran man most recently served as joint-manager of Offaly, stepping down with Declan Kelly following their Tailteann Cup semi-final defeat to eventual winners Wicklow back in July.

Most famously, Harte led Tyrone to All-Ireland Senior Championship titles in 2003, 2005 and 2008 during his 18 years in charge of the county’s senior footballers. Since then, he has had stints at the helm of Louth, Derry and Offaly.

‘Over the moon’

Confirming his appointment, a Kilcoo spokesperson said: “Mickey was unanimously ratified at a club committee meeting this evening and the club are over the moon that the Tyrone man has agreed to become our manager.

“Mickey is renowned as one of the top managers in the GAA. He led Tyrone to an unprecedented three All-Ireland Senior Football Championships, six Ulster titles, a National League, and twelve Dr McKenna Cups during his record 17-year tenure. Harte also managed Louth and Derry before becoming joint-manager of Offaly in 2024.

“Details of Mickey’s backroom team will be confirmed at a later date.

We wish our new management team and players all the best for the 2027 season.”
