‘Niamh Reel arrives with salmon for lunch’

ARMAGH ‘keeper Anna Carr spills the beans on some of her teammates…

Age:  26.

Teams played for:
Armagh ladies, Queen’s University and Carrickcruppen GFC.

Earliest GAA memory?
I would probably say playing school football for St Paul’s, Bessbrook, who I played for from first year to seventh year. We had some great games over the years.

Which team-mate has been the most inspirational and why?
Caroline O’Hanlon. Easy one, she was my first experience of true professionalism. Her sporting achievements speak for themselves but she is a true inspiration for the standard she has played her two sports at over the last 15-plus years.

Who’s the best team-mate to train with and why?
I would have to say Brianna Mathers, obviously us goalkeepers stick together and get each other through the wet goalkeeper sessions and the running.

Which team-mate is the worst to train with and why?
I wouldn’t say the worst as they probably help us raise our standards but it’s not pleasant when I have any of our Armagh forwards running in on goal.

Best score you’ve seen from a team-mate?
Aimee Mackin, only back from injury. She did a soccer skill to get past two defenders then hit it clean first-time with the outside of the boot from just inside the 45.

What win has your team celebrated the most?
The three in-a-row Ulster titles, definitely.

Which team-mate is the best on journeys away?
Niamh Reel as long as she hasn’t brought salmon with her for lunch.

Which club is the worst for journeys away?
Niamh Reel when she brings a salmon lunch with her.

What’s the funniest thing you’ve heard in training or in a match, and who said it?
We have a few funny characters in club and county. I would have to give it to Katie McArdle, loves getting people frazzled.

What’s the worst excuse you’ve heard to get out of training?
I think planning our sessions around concerts for club this year but other than that, we are usually pretty good at showing up.

Which team-mate is the loudest in the changing room?
I’d say everyone in the ‘Cruppen dressing room, we love a bit of music blurring.

Which team-mate would you want standing over a last-second penalty?
Caroline O’Hanlon, Aimee Mackin or Kelly Mallon.

Which team-mate would you never want to see hitting a last-second penalty?
Me… but if it wasn’t me maybe one of my full-backs. Maeve Watters definitely wouldn’t like taking one.

Which team-mate is the most sensible?
This is a tough one, I think most of us are not half wise, but I would have to choose Sarah Marley or Maebh Mo in the past.

Who is the smartest of all your team mates?
We had some smart cookies with Queen’s last year; Ciara Garvey, Emily Druse and Megan McShane are just some of the 15 girls I could have chosen.

Who’s the best team mate to celebrate with?
Really any of the girls but Niamh Reel and I have had some good laughs.
