SLEACHT Néill have lodged an appeal following the outcome of Sunday’s Derry SFC semi-final defeat to Newbridge, Gaelic Life can confirm.

The club met since the game and have made the decision to appeal.

The appeal is to be heard on Tuesday night. The final between Magherafelt and Newbridge is scheduled for this Sunday in Celtic Park.

The Derry champions will play Dunloy at a home venue on week of November 1/2 in the Ulster Club Championship.

The Emmet’s lost to the champions Newbridge in Sunday’s Derry semi-final at Owenbeg, 0-21 to 1-16.

Newbridge led the game at half-time, 0-14 to 0-8 before a 47th minute Shane McGuigan penalty helped Mark Doran’s side back into the game.

Shane McGuigan’s stoppage time point put Sleacht Néill into a 1-16 to 0-18 lead.

Video footage from Derry GAA TV shows McGuigan’s standing foot to be on the 40-metre arc, allowing a two-point score to be awarded.

From the resultant kick-out, Newbridge were awarded a free that was moved forward with Conor Doherty kicking the champions back into the lead with a two-point score.

Paudi McGrogan slotted over the game’s final point.

Sleacht Néill had one more chance but dropped a two-point shot short with the last kick of the game.
