Two Derry changes for trip to Salthill

By Michael McMullan

DERRY have made two changes for Saturday’s All-Ireland SFC trip to Connacht champions Galway.

Paudi McGrogan’s campaign has been ended with a cruciate injury with his place has been taken by Gareth McKinless who came on against Donegal.

The other change sees impact man Niall Toner coming in for a fourth start of the season ahead of the injured Niall Loughlin.

Cormac Murphy is also missing with injury and will be a loss after giving Derry an injection in their win over Kerry and against Dublin in the league final.

Matthew Downey, Jack Cassidy and Conleth McGuckian have left the squad since the Ulster Championship exit.

There have been call ups for u-20 players Ruairi Forbes and Danny McDermott with Forbes having already made his senior debut in the McKenna Cup against Cavan.

Derry will be aiming to break their championship hoodoo with Galway winning all four previous meetings in 1998, 2001, 2015 and 2022.

They’ll also be hoping to keep a clean sheet for the first time since Shane O’Kane in 2007 with Céin D’Arcy’s goal the 22nd conceded in Derry’s win over Galway in Salthill earlier this season.

Derry: Odhrán Lynch; Conor McCluskey, Chrissy McKaigue, Diarmuid Baker; Conor Doherty, Eoin McEvoy, Gareth McKinless; Conor Glass, Brendan Rogers; Ethan Doherty, Ciaran McFaul, Paul Cassidy; Niall Toner, Shane McGuigan, Lachlan Murray
Subs: Ryan Scullion, Emmett Bradley, Marty Bradley, Declan Cassidy, Mark Doherty, Shea Downey, Ruairi Forbes, Donncha Gilmore, Danny McDermott, Cahir McMonagle, Eunan Mulholland
