Wicklow comeback dashes hopes of fourth Donegal title

Nickey Rackard Cup final

Wicklow 1-20 Donegal 3-12

DONEGAL’S bid for a fourth Nickey Rackard Cup ended after a strong Wicklow second half performance in Croke Park on Saturday.

A late Donegal goal from goalkeeper Luke White’s free wasn’t enough to stop Wicklow winning their first title.

Two first-half goals from Ryan Hilferty and Liam McKinney had Donegal in the driving seat for much of the first half.

Christopher Moorehouse fired over two points for Wicklow who trailed 2-8 to 0-10 at the break.

Andy O’Brien’s goal had the sides level (1-12 to 2-9) after 42 minutes and it was nip and tuck for most of the third quainter.

Luke Evans, David Malony and Seair Germaine hit points for the Garden County who were 1-18 to 2-12 ahead after 62 minutes and on their way to glory.
