St Mary’s celebrate a famous win in today’s Sigerson Cup semi-final over UCC

ST Mary’s have stormed into their first Sigerson Cup final since 1993 with a whirlwind 2-7 to 2-6 victory over University College Cork in the first of this afternoon’s semi-finals.

The Belfast college endured a nightmare start as UCC bagged two early goals in the space of 30 seconds from Ian Maguire and Cathal Bambury.

However, St Mary’s clawed their way back into proceedings – they hit the next three points and parity was restored when Antrim’s Matthew Fizpatrick found the net.

Three points from rising Crossmaglen star Oisin O’Neill also contributed to the Ranch’s one-point lead at half-time, but UCC bounced back with three unanswered points in the third quarter.

But St Mary’s displayed their mettle with a 59th minute goal from Ciaran Corrigan and a late Corey Quinn point. That gave them a lead they wouldn’t relinquish as they held their nerve against the 2014 champions, and now Paddy Tally’s soldiers have 24 hours to prepare for tomorrow’s final against UL or UCD.
