PGthePT: Do your actions align with your goals?

WHAT are you actively doing to be better? Your goal is to be successful for your team, right? So what are you doing to make that dream a reality? Do your every day actions align with your long-term goal?
On the surface of that question you’d most likely say, “Yeah, course I am. I never miss a training session and I give my all every time I step out on the pitch.”, and that’s great but it doesn’t show the whole picture.
Maybe lockdown has thrown everyone out of the loop a little harder than I expected or maybe it was staring us in the face all along, but the chance to press the reset button that lockdown has given us has brought a few home truths to light.
Imagine that winning the championship and playing an important part of that victory is your end goal, it’s the destination where you want your journey to take you. An awful lot of people are letting their every day actions steer them away from that end point.
If you jumped in the car and it ran on petrol, you don’t fill it with diesel. The consistently poor dietary choices you’re making are the exact same thing.
Your food is your fuel, you need it for energy, for recovery, basically the better your food choices the better you function. Now that I’ve spelt that out for you, looking at your own eating over the last seven days, how would you rank it out of 10? If it’s any lower than a seven then you’re doing yourself an injustice. Your actions aren’t aligning with your goals.
Think about the person looking back at you holding that championship medal, are they in better physical shape? Is their mental health in a more positive place? What actions do you need to take to become that person? Reverse engineer from your best possible end point and begin to look at what changes you need to make to get there.
Do you need to change your training routine? Are you just going through the motions when you’re in the gym? Do you need a structured and progressive training program so that you can see clear results from the work you’re putting in?
Are you neglecting an area of weakness that you keep putting off because you don’t like doing the work required to improve on it? Be that a long run or a yoga session, only you know what your body really needs.
Are you too hard on yourself? Does your headspace need to change? Are you stuck in a negative conversation loop with yourself that is holding you back from moving forward because A) you feel like you don’t deserve be look and feel better and find success on the field, or B) that you are afraid to fail?
Championship football is being played across the province this week, and we go out to win. Favourite or underdog, it doesn’t matter.
Now is the time to strap a rocket on your back and go fully in on achieving your own personal goals, and to do that you have to make sure your every day actions align with reaching that end point!
