Emotional win for Magilligan

The new Junior football Champions of Derry have admitted that the win has been an important boost after what has been an emotional two years for the club.

At the start of 2015, Magilligan lost one of its most important members, Steven Deeney who died while training in Limavady. The loss hit the club hard. But over  a year on, his friends and team mates have honoured his memory by capturing championship glory.

Manager Darren McShane explained why the win was so important:

““It’s a combination of a few things. It’s such a small, tight knit community. The players are on the committee, they do a lot of work around the club, and they are not blessed with numbers.

“Also, after last year, when the players lost a friend who died during training, it made the win an emotional experience.”
