DERRY goalkeeper Odhrán Lynch made a return to competitive action last weekend in Magherafelt’s win over Bellaghy.
Magherafelt were winners over the Tones thanks to a late goal from Derry U20 player Cahir Spiers.
Lynch had an operation for an injury that kept him out of county action last season and he also missed the Rossa run to last year’s county final.
With their other goalkeeper Karl Campbell pursing an NFL kicking career in the US, Magherafelt manager Gavin Devlin converted outfielder Shea McGuckin into their goalkeeper last season.
McGuckin has since been called into the Derry squad by Ciarán Meenagh and made his championship debut against Antrim.
Lynch, McGuckin, Ryan Scullion and Louis Regan are the goalkeepers on the Derry squad.
With some action now under his belt, Lynch continues his comeback from injury having been a key member of Derry’s back-to-back Ulster winning team.
The Oakleafers were knocked out of the Ulster Championship by Monaghan and now await their opening round of the All-Ireland SFC.
Derry will travel to Ulster champions Armagh on Saturday, May 30.
