Murphy goal helps St Mary’s book spot in Sigerson Cup quarter-finals

ST Mary’s have booked their spot in the last eight of this year’s Sigerson Cup with a  1-10 to 0-6 win over ATU Sligo.

A first half goal Cormac Murphy put Gavin McGilly’s side on their way to victory.

The former St Mary’s Magherafelt MacRory Cup star notched 1-2 as the Ranch won their second match in their travels to join NUI Galway, TU Dublin and DCU in the last eight.

Points from Sean Rock, Charlie Smyth (45) and Matt Óg McAleenan got the Ulster side off the mark before Murphy’s 23rd minute goal on the way to a 1-4 to 0-2 interval lead.

Murphy, Rock and Danny Magree helped St Mary’s on their way to a deserving win

The Ulster University v ATU Donegal game has been called off again with the winners set to play in Round 3 next week and discussions to take place about a possible Sunday refixture.

The tie originally fixed for Wednesday in Jorsdanstown before being postponed until  Thursday and then Friday in Downings.

Of the UU team, goalkeeper Odhran Lynch and Ben McCarron would be in consideration for a spot in Derry’s team for Saturday’s McKenna Cup panel with Tyrone who have UU Vice Captain Conor Cush and Darragh Canavan in their ranks.

DOUBLE BOOKED…Ben McCarron has a busy schedule with Derry and Ulster University
