Champions Clontibret out to defend their title

John McEntee (manager), Padraig McGuigan, Mick O’Dowd and JP Mone (selectors).

Championship programme:

Monaghan SFC Group One

Ballybay v Clontibret, July 26

Clontibret v Magheracloone, August 9

Donaghmoyne v Clontibret, August 16

Clontibret v Inniskeen, August 23

Team news:

The holders Clontibret are out to retain their title after last year’s turnaround season under John McEntee. In his first year in charge, the Crossmaglen man nearly saw his side relegated to the intermediate level but they survived in the final round of league games. They took advantage of that to blast through the championship and surprise Scotstown in the final before doing the same to Crossmaglen in Ulster. There have been no retirees from last year and Pauric Boyle is the new captain of the O’Neill’s. The opening fixture with Ballybay will probably go a long way to determining who makes it straight through to the semi-finals while their final match will be interesting as McEntee goes up against his old mate, and current Inniskeen boss, Oisin McConville.
